SUMMARY:Discover Sicily: the Etna region
DESCRIPTION:Explore Etna’s unique wines from three local wineries: Tenute Mannino\, Feudo Cavaliere\, and Cantine di Nessuno. Listen to tales from the slopes of Mount Etna\, a 3\,330m active volcano and Sicily’s wine-making hotspot. \n\n\n\nEtna was Sicily’s first Designation of Origin (DOC)\, set up in 1968. Its vineyards are perched high\, some even among the world’s highest\, offering a range of climates. Experimentation is in the air\, as winemakers push higher up the volcano\, exploring the rich\, volcanic soil. \n\n\n\nGazing east\, you’ll see the Mediterranean sunlight bouncing back onto the vines. This extra light helps grapes ripen even at cooler\, higher altitudes. While Sicily is generally hot and sunny\, Etna’s higher slopes provide a cooler\, longer growing season. \n\n\n\nEtna’s volcanic soil is a cocktail of minerals like magnesium and phosphorus\, ideal for winemaking. Despite changing times and techniques\, the Etna DOC regulations have stood firm\, a testament to their well-crafted origins.
